What are Domain and Hosting?

What is a Domain?

Domains are extensions belonging to websites that provide information, services, etc. on the internet. Domains are the visible names. Companies, organizations, and institutions generally register domains in their own names. The Turkish equivalent of "domain" is "Alan Adı" (domain name). The most commonly used domain name extensions are com, net, org, gov, and edu.

The extensions at the end of domain names can be tr, en, co.uk, co.kr, en, es, au, etc. These extensions are used to represent the countries they are located in.

Domain names can actually be used for different purposes depending on their type. Today, the equivalents of domain names are as follows:

com: Commercial organization or company
co: Commercial organization or company
edu: Educational institution
gov: Government organization
mil: Military organization
net: Internet service provider
org: Non-profit organization

When registering a domain name, it is very important that it is suitable, easy to remember, and memorable. It is quite important for site accessibility. A domain name is like your identity on the internet; therefore, your domain name is very important to visitors.

Domain names work by being a simpler and more memorable way for computers to access each other. For example, when you want to access www.bintajans.com, your computer first translates this domain name into an IP address and then redirects you to the IP address of the server hosting that IP address.

Since people who want to access your website cannot know your IP address, domain names are more intelligent because the domain name you enter is first translated into an IP address and then accesses the hosting server service that provides that IP address.

What is Hosting?

The Turkish equivalent of the word "web" means "Worldwide Internet." The Turkish equivalent of the word "hosting" means "hosting," "providing a home," or "hosting." After this explanation, it is possible to combine the meanings of the phrase "web hosting" into Turkish. The exact Turkish equivalent of the phrase "web hosting" is: a service that hosts and publishes websites worldwide, in other words, a service that provides a home for websites. Web hosting is the process of providing a platform for websites, images, videos, or pages that you want to publish online, making them accessible to internet users.
